Position Title: Quality Assurance Manager

Reporting Relationship: Report to V.P. Food Safety & Q.A.

Position Purpose:
Manages the basic aspects of a QA/QC department for a seafood processing operation from raw material and ingredient inspection to the finished product, to ensure product quality, legality, food safety, conformance to spec, reduce waste due to non-conformance, and to monitor and audit food safety and other programs.
General Requirements:
- BS degree in microbiology or other related field with strong background in microbiology.
- 10 years experience in QA/QC.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- HACCP certification is a must
- Global Food Safety Experience ( BRC, SQF) required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the effectiveness of the two subordinate supervisors with respect to their responsibilities.
- Assist the supervisors, where needed, to determine causes of poor quality, rejections, or scrap.
- Communicate clearly and directly with supervisors or inspectors concerning performance expectations, productivity and accountability.
- Supervise various inspectional and test procedures to ensure compliance with methods and procedures.
- Establish and maintain records necessary for quality assurance, food safety, GMP’s, and other records associated with the USDC IQA program.
- Maintain and review HACCP logs for compliance
- Monitor the efficiency of the HACCP program and perform periodic audits of the critical control points, and other policies and procedures.
- Manage the supplier third party audit program by tracking compliance and acceptability of rating, as well as corrective action responses.
- Assist the Department Head by performing projects, studies, surveys or other duties, when requested.
- Provide plant tours and presentation for customers, when requested.
- Maintain and direct the self-auditing program
Specific Duties
- Administrative
- Absentee and on-duty reports
- Monitor timecards.
- File vacation, leave and day off forms.
- Maintain all records.
- Assist in administrative projects.
- Quality Assurance
- Escort third party auditors, Fl Dept Agriculture, FDA and other inspectors during inspections
- Supervise department functions.
- Monitor daily inspections of finished products and raw materials during processing and testing.
- Support and assist the QA Supervisor in resolving quality deficiencies.
- Monitor on hold products and on hold log book.
- Complete on hold reports for in-house holds and returned products.
- Troubleshoot quality issues.
- Review finished product and raw material reports.
- Inspect returned products to determine disposition.
- Assist the VP of Food Safety & Quality Assurance in special projects.
- Any other duties as assigned by management.
Microbiology Program
- Monitor sampling program
- Arrange pickups
- Maintain logbook
- Perform and/or supervise duties of the microbiology SOP
HACCP Coordinator
- Monitor Critical control points by auditing
- Review and verify reports
- Maintain HACCP files
- Assist VP of Food Safety & Quality Assurance in HACCP projects
