NEWS in Tampa,
Full-time
The Economy and Growth team at the Tampa Bay Times is looking for an experienced reporter with energy and a hunger to break news to cover real estate — one of our most important beats.
Real estate in Tampa Bay and Florida is the story of culture, money and power. To cover this epic saga, a reporter needs to be relentless, develop key sources and produce compelling story ideas. Experience covering business topics is a plus, but not required.
The ideal candidate must exhibit the digital skills and competitive spirit to match this audience-driven beat. Be ready to explore various storytelling methods, including video and audio formats, and engage with readers across platforms for feedback and story ideas. Dive into Reddit, Facebook groups, Instagram and NextDoor, all places real estate news or questions about development can be mined. Be open to using audience analytics to drive your reporting. We learned last year how much our subscribers crave news in this area and we are looking for a leader to meet – and capitalize – on that demand.
The next real estate reporter should move with a sense of urgency to deliver scoops and break news, dive through data, recognize unique enterprise stories and be ready to chart the ever-changing trends. You will get to write about major developments changing the face of Tampa Bay, help consumers understand the market and document the affordable housing crisis’ impact on local residents. Versatility remains a must.
To apply, please upload a resume and cover letter with a vision for this beat. Include links to clips, if possible. Under work history on the application, feel free to leave blank if attaching a current resume.
