Summary

Responsibilities include providing support to staff to effectively carry out the activities of the City of Largo’s Community Center. A primary function of this position is to provide excellent service and requires: cash handling, room set-ups, basic computer skills.
The position reports to the Center Supervisor or Manager.
Hours: Position requires flexibility of scheduling and will include hours after 4 PM through 9:00 PM, or later including weekends (May include some day hours depending on center need)
Additional Info: Must have the ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location and may include duties other than those specified in the employees official job description.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Position is located at a busy active adult community center.
  • Opens, closes, and secures the facility and ensures all rules and regulations of the facilities are enforced. Ensures all precautions are taken in the maintaining participants’ safety. Assures the safety, welfare and well being of adults enrolled in programs.
  • Inputs and retrieves data from the computer.
  • Maintains communication between customers and other staff.
  • Supports the division and the department in external activities.
  • Collects activity fees and processes payments.
  • Prepares daily activity reports.
  • Assists with the maintenance, opening/closing, and securing of the facility and equipment.
  • May be responsible for updating the bulletin board and fliers as requested.
  • Tracks daily facility attendance, and may track financial activities.
  • Administers first aid when necessary and completes appropriate reports.
  • Sets up and breaks down rooms for activities as appropriate.
  • Participates in maintenance of facility cleanliness.
  • May complete daily fitness/safety inspections.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to set up and tear down of daily activities and rentals; evening and weekend program / rental coverage
  • Front desk coverage including the use of computerized program management system for check in of participants and program payments.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Training and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and six months experience in recreation or related customer service experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of rules, techniques, and equipment requirements of a variety of recreation activities. Must have leadership ability. Ability to give and receive oral and written communications. Ability to deal with people tactfully and diplomatically. Ability to do light to heavy manual work. Skill in the activities or programs for which hired.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT
90% inside a climate controlled building. 10% outside. Depending on assignment, work environment may vary significantly.

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of the job requires a combination of : sitting, standing and walking during any shift with the majority of time spent walking and/or standing for event set up and break down. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive lifting/carrying of objects weighing 45 pounds or more.

Sensory Requirements

Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, and ability to detect specific noises and proper equipment operation. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone, and to be able to acknowledge instructions. Seeing: Ability to operate a vehicle and equipment.

Other Machines

The work may require the ability to operate the following: multi-line telephone, fax, photocopier, cash machine, laminator, park radio, computers. Some computer experience is preferred.
