Job Description

This position is responsible for design, development, implementation and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), scientific GIS modeling and analysis, and internet mapping applications with associated widgets / tools to support the overall FWRI scientific mission.  The development of the internet mapping applications uses a variety of web development tools and computer programming languages, with a particular emphasis on ESRI AppBuilder, Java Script, CSS, and HTML5.  Other web development tools and programming languages of interest are Python, JSON, and possibly PHP.  This position will also be overseeing the maintenance of the Geospatial Assessment of Marine Ecosystems (GAME) project.  These responsibilities require a strong familiarity with the ArcGIS for Desktop version 10.x editing environment, some exposure to SQL Server Management Studio and SQL queries.

Desired Minimum Requirements

  • A Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Geography or Computer Sciences and knowledge of, classwork in, and experience with the Biological Sciences; and
  • A working knowledge of GIS programming and web development using Java Script, CSS, and HTML5 programming languages.

Responsible for following the provisions and requirements in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, related to the Department of Financial Services rules and FWC’s invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.

Knowledge, Skill(s), and Abilities

Duties of this position will require a certain level of knowledge of and/or experience with:

  • Geography and Computer and web programming using JavaScript, CSS, & HTML5;
  • Scripting, computer programming and troubleshooting using the following languages and application development tools: Adobe Flex, ESRI AppBuilder, Java Script, CSS, HTML5, Python, JSON, PHP, and possibly others
  • ESRI products version 10.0 or higher, including:
    • ArcGIS for Desktop
    • ArcGIS for Server, and
    • ArcSDE on a SQL Server Platform
  • A strong attention to detail and clear organizational skills
  • Biological and/or Natural Sciences;
  • The ability to work effectively in collaborative groups as well as solitarily on projects.
