Job Description

The Seasonal Maintenance Technician will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Fairgrounds leading up to and during the annual Florida State Fair. To be successful, the Maintenance Technician must have working knowledge of various trades. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance repairs and services including but not limited to: Installing doors, cabinets, paneling, flooring, bulletin boards, trim, painting, assistance with general plumbing and HVAC servicing needs, etc.
  2. Working with/on high reach equipment.
  3. Moves heavy objects as requested.
  4. Coordinates work projects with other maintenance trades.
  5. Uses a wide variety of tools and equipment to include airless sprayers, striping machines, sanders, automated machinery, etc.
  6. Maintains shop and equipment in a clean, orderly manner.
  7. Reports any maintenance concerns for building and equipment to the Facilities Manager.
  8. Performs on-call emergency service as required.
  9. Prepares surfaces for plaster or cement work by taping joints on sheetrock, caulking and waterproofing walls and cracks in floors, etc. by using appropriate tools and equipment.
  10. May be called upon to assist/perform a variety of other maintenance tasks as may be required.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
  12. Must be available to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and on-call.

Experience and Skills

EDUCATION: High School Diploma required. Trade and/or Vocational certifications is a plus.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) to five (5) years experience in general and facilities maintenance.

SKILLS:

  • Must be able to operate tools and machinery pertinent to building maintenance.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Identify problems and implement solutions.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

Duties are both indoor and outdoor. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and routinely lift or move (up to 100 pounds).  Environmental elements includes some exposure to wetness or humidity, work near mechanical parts, work in high places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.
