The Senior Staff Accountant reports to the Corporate Controller with responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, managing the general ledger, job cost accounting, profitability analysis and other special projects as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger for monthly closing and reporting cycles, including preparation of all period end journal entries.
- The ability to generate financial statements is an added bonus.
- Fixed asset accounting including capitalization, disposal and depreciation.
- Function as the backup for pay applications, report and monitor accounts receivables.
- Bank accounts maintenance including recording of daily cash activity, monthly bank transactions, and performing monthly bank reconciliations.
- Monthly, quarterly and year-end reconciliations, including reconciling sub-legers to general ledger.
- Research and reconcile all discrepancies.
- Work with project teams to resolve job cost queries.
- Identify, recommend and implement process improvements to the flow of information, month-end closing, project accounting and management reports.
- Preparing sales tax and property tax remittances.
- Other financial and profitability analysis as required.
- To become in-house expert on SAP Business One.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Experience with and understanding of job cost accounting.
- Experience with and understanding of percentage of completion method of revenue recognition.
- Above average skills using MS Excel preferred.
- Familiarity with IFRS is a plus.
- Experience with SAP Business One is preferred.
- Well organized with ability to manage multiple priorities while working towards tight deadlines.
- Superior analytical & problem solving skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with vendors and internal employees.
- Ability to function as a team player.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a job costing environment, preferably in the heavy construction industries preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in finance.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
