The Straz Center is seeking candidates who have a passion for advancing the arts and embrace the Straz Center’s mission and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

The Special Events Coordinator, in coordination with the Sr. Manager of Special Events, will organize and implement the Straz Center’s major fundraising events, including but not limited to the Broadway Ball, TASTE @ The Straz, and Opera Tampa Grand Gala; along with all other donor cultivation and stewardship events in support of the Straz Center’s fundraising priorities.

The Special Events Coordinator is a well-organized, strategic and highly detail-oriented professional who communicates effectively and works seamlessly with vendors, staff, constituents and donors.

The Special Events Coordinator coordinates and facilitates the planning, execution and evaluation of events, including but not limited to securing vendors and coordinating logistics, volunteers, tracking reservations and registration/check-in/check-out. This position is responsible for all aspects of auction administration and sponsor benefit fulfillment for each fundraising event. The Special Events Coordinator also collaborates with other Straz staff members on areas such as creation of collateral materials, event catering, production aspects, and more.

The Special Events Coordinator provides support to affinity groups and volunteer committees, such as the Producers Young Professional Group and the Opera Tampa League, in order to ensure their success with events and related fundraising activities.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Special Events and should have at least two years’ experience in fundraising and/or special events coordination.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Must be able to work on-site daily.
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for employment.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet job requirements.
  • High attention to detail and ability to multi-task multiple projects.
  • Outgoing, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers and donors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with exceptional organization and time-management abilities.
  • Creative and able to work collaboratively and in an energetic and changing environment.
  • Employs good judgment. Has discretion and respects and maintains confidentiality.
  • Adept at PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint.
  • Development experience or work with a non-profit organization a plus.
  • Available to work select evenings and weekends.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to the arts a plus.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Two years’ experience in fundraising and/or special events coordination and a demonstrated track record of achievement.
