Responsibilities
The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for assisting the Public Relations Manager in executing public relations initiatives to increase the exposure and enhance the image of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s reputation in the community and doing so by gaining positive media exposure locally, regionally, and nationally, attending community events as a spokesperson and also being available at all hours needed for crisis and urgent public matters on and off Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa’s property.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Organize and implement media relations and public relations functions in a fast-paced environment.
• Write press releases, radio scripts, and blurbs for print, on-line content and media alerts.
• Proofread vast quantities of information on deadline daily.
• Draft pitch letters, and targeted communications for specific audiences and media outlets.
• Coordinate swag bags and media giveaways for all special appearances and seasonal exposure.
• Maintain and update the crisis communication plan and be readily available should a crisis situation unfold on or off the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa’s property.
• Organize and implement offsite marketing sponsorship and community relations needs for best representation of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa and the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
• Help maintain copy for website and update press kit whenever necessary.
• Help maintain digital assets and files for communication.
• Point person for all PR agency partners, Bitner Goodman, Zimmerman and Coyne.
• Issue and crisis management and trend analysis, always updating and looking for enterprise stories to enhance the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa and Seminole Tribe of Florida’s brand and image.
• Organize and implement proposals by media and PR partners for approval.
• Maintain and organize evaluation clips of all publicity programs at all times of the day.
• Organize and maintain digital media kit for mass media needs, which includes but is not limited to vetting media calls and requests at all necessary hours of the day/evening.
• Work directly with all facets of mass media to get them the information they need to maximize exposure while protecting and upholding the image and best interest of Seminole Hard Rock Tampa and the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
• Work cohesively with vendors such as creative agency and printing agencies to ensure marketing collateral that affects public relations meets standards.
• Maintain lists: community, vendor, partner and social and media lists for invites and follow up.
• Provide research and planning assistance for long and short term PR initiatives.
• Maintain and coordinate list and processing of awards for SHRT media exposure.
• Facilitate all onsite news media logistics with internal departments such as the property President, Vice President of Marketing, Security, Casino Operations, Gaming Commission, Public Space and other necessary departments.
• Organize and implement needs for the entire Seminole Hard Rock Girls and Seminole Hard Rock Guys Programs, which includes various booking communications at all hours of the day/evening.
• Responsible for maintaining and creating jobs to meet the PR & marketing needs of the President, Vice President’s and all casino team members and departments.
• Provide PR presence for on property filming and media broadcasts, which includes morning, mid and night shifts.
• Redirect media solicitation calls. Follow up with media agency for recommendations.
• Scan newspapers daily and magazines weekly/monthly for any Seminole Hard Rock Tampa or Seminole Tribe of Florida mention or ads and maintain files.
• Provide Social Media support as needed on-site and off-site for Seminole Hard Rock Tampa events, promotions, sponsorships and celebrity appearances.
• Liaison for media at events onsite, check in support, responsible and keeper of media credentials.
• Update and maintain Department Traffic Report 2-3 times daily.
• Maintain files and binders for ALL PR jobs and Community Relations jobs.
• Maintain photo galleries of property shots and events.
• Communicate through and respond to Web inquiries and help coordinate Market Metrix PR communications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, or Public Relations required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2-5 year’s experience in a PR agency or PR corporate environment
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, and other organizational systems
- Understanding of the media relations landscape
- Experience in writing press releases, stories, and other relevant content for external communications
- Experience in pitching stories to reporters, samples of published clips, etc.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats
- Superior organizational skills
- Work well under pressure of deadlines
- Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
- Ability to exercise a great deal of initiative, forward strategic thinking and independent judgment
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms
Work Environment:
- Duties and responsibilities are typically performed on the Casino Floor in a fast-paced, guest-smoking environment, with constant exposure to general public and excessive noise, as well as, in a professional office setting. At times, you will be working off property.
- This position requires frequent standing and walking and the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues
