Provide leadership and coordination of accounting department. Oversees the Company’s accounting system, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Supervise and coordinate the monthly and annual closing cycle, ensuring timely distribution of financial statements to management.
Essential Functions:
Oversee accounting and finance staff to ensure work is properly allocated and is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Maintain a documented system of internal controls over accounting policies and transactions.
Provide financial analysis to executive team as needed. Review and validate analyses prepared by subordinates.
Coordinate external audits and internal financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
Responsible for timely, accurate financial statement close each month and at year-end. Monitor department’s progress and identify/resolve delays and/or issues.
Provide input and analyses of internal financial statements, trends, and changes in account balances for discussions at month-end close meetings and other meetings with Executive Management.
Review support for, and approve/post, non-routine journal entries. Ensure policies and procedures are adequate to appropriately document and support all transactions.
Detail review month-end general ledger, financial statements, account reconciliations and analyses. Ensure all internal controls over financial reporting are performed and evidence is appropriately maintained.
Ensures compliance with corporate policies, GAAP standards and statutory requirements.
Drive change for new processes and controls or improvements to existing processes and controls. Empower department personnel to identify and implement process improvements.
Responsible for full supervision of 2 supervisors and various senior accountants, including career development, performance evaluation, and training.
Develop and implement a plan for training, cross-training and industry education of accounting department personnel.
Work with Manager of SEC Financial Reporting to meet all reporting requirements and deadlines.
Work closely with other department leaders (accounts payable, human resources, capitation, medical economics, health analytics, service fund, revenue reconciliation, IT, etc.) to identify gaps and improvements in processes. Provide guidance to other departments as necessary.
Act as department coordinator for system implementations, expansions, etc.
Coordinate department input into financial planning/budget analysis.
Education: Post Graduate Degree in Accounting
Experience: 8+ years of accounting experience, a combination of public accounting and managed care insurance industry-specific experience; 5+ years experience leading an accounting/general ledger department
Licenses/Certifications: CPA required
Special Skills (e.g. 2nd language): GL accounting package experience (Oracle or commensurate), strong statutory and GAAP accounting knowledge, SEC technical accounting/reporting knowledge
