Required Skills

  • Significant experience and expertise in writing detailed operation and service instructions for complex systems.
  • Ability to write instructional materials for a professional audience as well as technicians and specialists.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and knowledge of other Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Working knowledge of graphics applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Framemaker, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Comfortable with using PC tools and Windows OS, with a working knowledge of local and network based file systems.

Desired Skills

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

The ideal candidate has a strong writing/editing background, is willing to expand their skill set to learn new skills, is organized, and possesses a willingness to divide their time between the Technical Writing, Quality Assurance (QA), Operations and Research and Development teams, although most of the effort will be Technical Writing.

  • This position is responsible for ensuring that all assigned work activities are performed in a timely and cost effective manner while maintaining the highest quality of performance.
  • Responsible for activities associated with reviewing documentation and project deliverables and basic QA tasks.

Position Summary:

  • The Technical Writer leads a team of technical writers who work closely with the Engineering, Marketing, Service, Regulatory and Quality organizations to create and manage documents and other publications, including user and service manuals, generally intended for disclosure to customers, distributors and the general public.
  • Duties include team management, content creation, editing and formatting documents per established style guidelines, participating in the formal review and approval of such documents and publications.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain product manuals and other customer communications using technical documents, industry standards, cross-functional input and direct interaction with subject devices and software.
  • Review, format, and finalize publications and technical communications ensuring consistent style, formatting and brand messaging.
  • Manage translation of selected manuals into multiple languages using both internal and external resources.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling of work efforts.
  • Schedule and prioritize work efforts to meet deadlines; stores and organizes electronic files. Assist in the preparation, processing and control of other documents, as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper staffing; identifies top performers/under performing employees and develops appropriate plans for development; actively engages and motivates employees.
  • Manages direct reports, conducts annual reviews and sets specific goals and objectives based on overall competencies.
  • Establishes regular department meetings to promote communication and adequate information flow.
