Planned Systems International, a seasoned Government Contractor, is seeking a unique, self-motivated, and influential individual to support our Government client.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
The position will also require software testing and other activities including, but not limited to:
Performing technical editing for quality assurance on all documentation prior to delivery to the customer
Creating and implementing consistent writing templates and documentation style for all technical publications
Collaborating with subject matter experts when creating user guides, process documentation, new templates, template updates, and presentations to understand project specifications and needs
Analyzing team processes to ensure efficiency and that all aspects of the process are documented
Ensuring technical documentation is complete and accurate
Combining, editing formatting, and finalizing the monthly progress report
Maintaining documentation storage structure and standards in SharePoint and in Rational Team Concert
Baseline documents that have completed the review process
Creating new project folders, support SharePoint maintenance, restart workflows, and communicate SharePoint outages and issues with the team and with first and second-level support, as needed
Creating, editing, and maintaining training material, brown bags, instructional supplements to ensure processes are understood as well as review all documentation and training materials to keep them up to date
Researching and evaluating new documentation tools and methods; documenting and improving documentation processes as needed
Developing documentation project plans and timelines
Providing a high level of customer service by adopting the customer’s mission and working towards success
Recording, transcribing, and publishing meeting minutes
Ensuring VA standards are being met
Creating and maintaining standards for ETS
Ensuring Section 508 compliance is met
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field and 3+ years of Technical Writing/Communications experience in IT or Software development industries (or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience)
Experience must include:
Interviewing SMEs to gather technical details
Creating technical manuals and quick reference guides
Using accepted style manuals, such as the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), the Microsoft Manual of Style, and VA style preferences
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, SharePoint, and Rational Team Concert
Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility
Proven excellent oral and written communication skills are required
Expertise writing/editing/proofreading at all levels and willingness to do whatever’s needed
Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas
Ability to revise one’s own work or the work of others to make a documents or presentations clearer or more persuasive
Convey complex information in appropriate fashion to audiences with different levels of knowledge
Work in both a team environment and independently
Coach and mentor other technical writers
Work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment
U.S. Citizenship is required as is successfully passing a thorough Government background screening requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in English
Extensive experience in technical writing (minimum ten years)
Mastery of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel)
Strong understanding of Rational Team Concert, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Experience as a team leader, including organizing projects and project plans (minimum 5 years)
