The Straz Center for the Performing Arts is seeking to fill the position of Director of Human Resources, reporting directly to the CAFO, and indirectly to the CEO. As part of the senior management team at the Straz Center, the Director of HR is responsible for planning, developing, organizing and directing HR services, policies and programs. Areas of focus include staffing, training & professional development, employee relations, compensation and employee benefits, legal and compliance. The incumbent serves as a business partner to the Center’s executive management team and represents HR on the Center’s Safety Committee, Diversity Counsel, Customer Care Committee and Data Security Committee. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Primary Responsibilities:
• Recommends, develops, implements and monitors compliance of HR policy and procedure for the effective management of the organizations people resources;
• Serves as advisor and ensures implementation and enforcement of enacted law; may recommend business procedures to comply with enacted law;
• Oversees 403(b) activity in payroll administration.
• Working with Payroll/HRIS Manager, develops, recommends, and implements Payroll policies and procedures for effective management of the payroll administration of the organization.
• Responds to employment related legal action working with legal counsel;
• Establishes credibility throughout organization as an effective listener and problem solver of people issues in matters of employee relations.
• Supports and enables the execution of the Centers strategic plan to include workforce planning.
• Oversees all aspects of recruitment and staffing;
• Assumes responsibility for employee benefit administration by working closely with business partners to design, evaluate and modify employee benefits to ensure competitiveness and compliance;
• Directs all aspects of recruitment and staffing for the organization through the HR Specialist – Talent Acquisition (full time and part time exempt, non-exempt personnel, and seasonal workers) and the contingency workforce (staff volunteers and interns) through the HR Specialist.
• Serves in capacity of staff liaison to Chair of the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Executives
• Oversees and directs the administration of employee benefits to include health, welfare, voluntary
benefit plans, and retirement plan.
• Develops and manages HR operating budget;
Education, Work Experience and KSA’s:
• Bachelor’s degree in a Business-related field; Professional level certification SPHR or SCP
(preferred)
• Minimum of 8 years related experience
• Knowledge and experience in use of HRIS
• Thorough understanding of human resources practices and their organizational impact; ability to
read, analyze and interpret human resources technical journals and legal documents
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, vendors and business
partners
• Broad experience in conflict management dispute resolution techniques, facilitation, training and
communications
• Solid knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulation
• Experience in the administration of health & welfare and retirement benefit plans
• Able to effectively balance between strategic and tactical activities with strict attention to detail;
ability to define, prioritize and manage workload independently;
