POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Visitor Services Associate I (Full Time)

Reports to: Visitor Services Manager

Department: Visitor Experience

Position type: Non-Exempt/Full-time

Location: St. Petersburg, FL

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Visitor Services Associate I (FT) serve under the direction of the Visitor Services Manager. We want visitors to our museum to have an exceptional experience enjoying the collection and to feel welcomed and taken care of from the moment they approach the building through their exiting. The General Admissions desk serves as the first point of contact for visiting members and patrons. The candidate should possess excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

be the first museum contact for the visiting public and members

create a positive museum experience by providing assistance in admissions, museum shop and galleries.

greet and welcome all visitors while providing necessary information to enhance their visit

sell General Admission, Special and Exhibition Tickets with add-ons for membership, donations, events, audio tours and other marketing opportunities.

operate computerized ticketing and database admission systems. Responsible for strict adherence to charging appropriate admission prices, verifying ID’s for free and discounted types of admission, and collecting all complimentary passes and coupons. Responsible and accountable for properly handling funds collected at admissions desk.

become highly knowledgeable in The James collection, the museum building and history of the museum’s implementation

provide information to visitors regarding museum policies, exhibits, collections, special events and programs

provide assistance as needed, for special events and programs outside of normal operating hours

enforce Security and Safety procedures and protocols in all public spaces of the museum. enforce gallery rules of conduct when needed

assist with preparation of museum opening and closing, replacing brochures, checking signage, etc.

assisting in special projects and providing assistance to other departments as needed

provide assistance to Onsite Manager as needed.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Proven ability to easily engage people and orient them to the museum’s offerings.

Exceptional computer ability

Ability to generate revenue through effective selling techniques.

Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgment to solve problems independently.

Able to correctly execute cash handling responsibilities.

Serve as an ambassador to the museum, and market museum in a positive manner.

Able to work well with individuals from a wide variety of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds.

Excellent communication skills.

Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word etc.)

Able to work flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings a minimum of 35 hours up to 40 hours/week

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

High School Diploma

College courses preferred
