Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center is one of the Top 100 Companies in Central Florida for working families. The Orlando VA Medical Center includes a 120-bed Community Living Center and a 60-bed Residential Rehabilitation Program, located at the Lake Nona Campus, Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin), Viera and Daytona Beach and four Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Leesburg, and Orange City. A new inpatient facility is currently under construction in southeast Orange County and is expected to open in 2015. The new 65-acre medical campus will have 134-inpatient beds and provide acute care, complex specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, a large multispecialty outpatient clinic, and administrative and support services.

DUTIES: The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position is located within the Mental Health Service, Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Orlando, FL. The primary purpose of this position is to provide services to disabled veterans residing in the Orlando area. The incumbent provides a wide range of rehabilitation counseling and case management services to disabled veterans whose employability is impaired by physical, mental, emotional or other disabilities. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Solicits and develops employment opportunities for Veterans suffering from mental and physical illness.
- Oversees and places patients to various transitional work and/or competitive employment positions.
- Arranges suitable placement of more severely disabled Veterans who require individualized treatment plans.
- Conducts follow-up and follow along services on these placements.
- Provides job coaching, job accommodation and adaptation services to clients and their employers.
- Assesses client’s vocational interest, aptitude and abilities through clinical tests, interviews, observations, etc.
- Provides individual and group counseling to address personal adjustment and problem solving.
- Provides consultation on vocational rehabilitation to interdisciplinary treatment team and other clinical staff.
- Provide educational experience to psychology staff, trainees, etc.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: The candidate must be willing to work weekends and irregular work hours. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and /or locations if necessary within the Orlando VAMC system. Every effort will be made to try to keep their clinical work at the site for which they were hired to work. The candidate may need to provide clinical services off tour and will be required to receive critical messages no matter where or when your primary site and tour are.
