Manual work of ordinary difficulty assisting in the performance of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of water mains including associated restoration/repairs to grounds, sidewalks and streets. This is an apprentice program of up to two years and may work as a member of a crew engaged in the installation, repair and maintenance of water mains, meters and line extensions and the operation of assigned equipment.  Employees use hand tools, power tools and equipment. Other duties may include digging ditches for laying pipe, may assist in performing routine maintenance work, operating flatbeds, boom trucks, dump trucks, air hammer and others as assigned.  An employee, who satisfactorily completes the probationary period in this job classification and meets the job proficiency standards of the apprentice program, are eligible for promotion to Water Distribution Operator Level 3 once license has been obtained. Persons employed in this classification shall have two years in which to achieve Water Distribution Operator Level 3 License.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High School diploma or valid G.E.D. document issued by accredited institution; supplemented by one (1) year experience as a semi-skilled laborer in the maintenance or construction field. Must have a s license with the ability to obtain a CDL.  Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:  Applicants will initially be evaluated based on a combination of their education, training, and experience.  Selected candidates will be invited to participate in an interview process.
